One participant who completed the course is an aspiring archer. She explained that a beginner must learn how to become comfortable and automatic with the stance, draw, release of the arrow and follow through. Beginners have to practice to the point where they don’t have to think about their stance as they set up, pull back the bow and let the arrow go. This acquired ability allows the archer to consciously focus on key factors: wind speed/direction, the angle of the arrow and distance to the target.
This is very similar to becoming skillful with Generative Choice. In the beginning, the participant has to become consciously aware of when the nongen tends to arise, recognize it in the moment and make quick shifts. This has to be practiced until it becomes automatic to the point where the nongen arising has little to no effect on most of life’s situations. This allows the person to focus on what is going on within and around the situation at hand. Participants completing Generative Choice training say this automatic ability helps them to listen more clearly to what people are saying, and they are more present in the moment because they aren’t distracted by nongen thoughts.
